Anyone tried the quarter/quarter/quarter method for boxes, drawers etc.?

I've done that for drawers, though I didn't realize it had a name.  I use that joint on all drawers that aren't on furniture pieces (shop cabinets, other stuff that doesn't get machine cut DT drawers.  I haven't done any boxes that way, just drawers.

I used it on 1/2" baltic birch to rebuild my silverware drawer a few years ago.

I've only used 1/2"BB but I wonder if 1/2" solid wood could be used. Got a bunch left from another box project. I might give it a try.

It will work just fine, most of the ones I've done were poplar.

1/4,1/4,1/4 boxes don't work right with baltic birch plywood.  6mm isn't 1/4", 1/2" is actually 12mm.  If you have a 6mm bit then you're OK trying it.

Using hardwood I prefer to use a 3/16" bit for the groove.  Leaves more wood below the groove for less change of breaking off and a stronger corner.

Made this blog post for my students:   https://4dfurniture.blogspot.com/2023/10/making-rabbetdado-corner-joint-using.html

Apologies for the videos.  No editing software so videos are straight off the camera.  Take careful measurements and this does make a good drawer corner joint.  Make a good general box joint too.

Four different box corner joints were fundamental lessons for beginning furniture design students. Also helped them learn several tools in the process of making the joints.
