March 25, 20242 yr Popular Post Important things done...church, our local Chinese buffet after before sending off granddaughter. Bird feeders refreshed, trash out for pickup. Out early today to "supervise" the grandsons as they start spring break. Hoping I'm up to the 6-1/2 hour round trip tomorrow to attend our Pastor's mothers funeral services in downstate Illinois. It will be the longest trip I've driven in 3 years. Wednesday, auction item pick-up early afternoon in the neighboring County seat. then later to our daughters for dinner (aka supper)and 13th birthday party for our oldest grandson. With all the windshield time, already planning a "day of rest" for Thursday.
March 25, 20242 yr Popular Post Started a process of "de-cabling" the house. When we had the storm damage last week our cable (and internet) went out. I tried to switch the TV over to the broadcast antennae to see the news updates, only to find that when the fiber optic guys set up our new systems, they cut my antennae cable and used it for their stuff! Then while trying to figure out what cable went to where I was completely...there must be cabling from 3 or 4 different installations in the house; enough coax in the basement to wire up a city. So I'm removing what isn't needed (had to buy a coax toner/tracer). It's slow process but it will get done. Then I'll probably upgrade our antennae. That aside, I did spend some time on the lathe over the weekend trying some new things. It mostly went well.
March 25, 20242 yr Popular Post Saturday was mostly taken up with a viewing at the funeral home for the father of close friends. Sunday was the funeral service, followed by a reception, both attended by over 150 people. Roy served in the RCAF during WW II as a flight mechanic flying escort missions for ships coming and going from the American base in Placentia, Newfoundland, so there was a military send-off by the local Legion. He spent most of the last 60 years selling, repairing, and supplying parts for Studebaker cars and trucks, and was well known in the northern US as a parts supplier. Some of you car fanatics may well have met him at some show or other. A full life, well lived. RIP, Roy!
