I restored an old Atlas metal lathe and did that in machinery gray. I didn't want the entire shop is drab gray so switched it up to a brighter color. I'm in the process of finishing up a Delta/Homecraft wood lathe and went with the same off white color that is like the Jet tools. Here is the before and some pics of some parts ready for reassembly.
March 10, 20242 yr It's a beauty. We had one posted for free on Facebook about 2 weeks ago, about 100 miles away. Along with it was an older Delta scroll saw. I wanted to go get it but there was no way I could leave the house that day. The donor indicated he just wanted the tools to go to a good home where they will be used. March 10, 20242 yr Excellent work on the lathe @prockey, Philip. Looks amazing. I like your thinking outside the "color scheme box." The off white looks really good. Can't wait to see it in the final state. Are you using spray cans or spray gun for the paint application? Finish looks factory quality. Also did you use bluing (gun) on the tail stock spindle advance wheel as well as the lock handle? Please keep posting pictures of the process. I really enjoy seeing restorations like this.
