Native Americans of the Pacific Northwest indulged even the most basic of tools such as this fish club, with ornamental carvings. The Pacific Northwest natives have a very distinct art style that is easily recognizable. 

 

Halibut fishermen used wooden clubs to kill or stun their catch; otherwise a heavy, struggling fish might turn over the canoe. The clubs were often beautifully carved, like this one which bears the image of a sea otter.

"They didn't want to spoil the head because they were going to cook it, so they were very careful where they hit it [a halibut]. Yeah, right here in the nostrils. That stunned it and then you turned it over so the belly side was up and then it didn't fight as much. Jaalen Edenshaw is a Haida carver whose work can be seen all over Canada. A member of the Ts’aahl – Eagle Clan of the Haida Nation, Jaalen grew up surrounded by Haida art and began his training at a young age working with renowned carvers like his father, Guujaaw and James Hart. Inspired by the Old Haida Stories and the work of the Old Masters before him, Jaalen looks to the past as a guide that influences his contemporary work.

 

Today we expect two more of Phyl's siblings to show up.  That'll make 6 of us. Dave, her brother, and I will head into town to pick up a mini van to haul everyone around to sight see and partake of Tucson's cuisine. There won't be much shop work for the next several days. Although I may sneak out there to do some scrolling as time permits. Have some family  requests for a few items. 

Week after next, Phyl's family will have cleared out and then, my clan of 8 arrives. They'll all be staying in a B&B, though. And, they'll have their own transportation. 

. 

This probably sounds crazy but I've been helping Bruce put a snowplow on the 2000 Blazer he bought from my brother.

We hit a new record high of 68° here yesterday, but as the old saying goes,

"If you don't like the weather here, wait five minutes it will probably change for the worse. 

Diverse and quite busy weekend. At least the weather wasn't a factor.

 

Monday "gruber" afternoon shuttle service. Oldest grandson has county wrestling tournament tomorrow night. Weekly domestic duties. Remainder of the week TBD depending on the weather and whether or not I can get motivated.

Enough high speed trips to and from Columbus,OH...that the Chevy's oil needed changed this morning..

 

So far...nothing to report, today...about how well the Boss is doing....She was sitting up and talking yesterday...and they were getting her to eat and drink on her own. 

 

Waiting to hear IF anything new comes along.  

 

Have not been to the shop since last Wednesday afternoon...other than Laundry Detail..
