Howdy All,

 

I started turning about a year ago. I live on 5 acres, mostly wooded. I am blessed with cherry, walnut, maple, black locust, honey locust, sassafras, dogwood, red oak, white oak, red elm, box elder, persimmon, eastern red cedar, hophornbeam, sugarberry (southern hackberry), hickory, and more. When I moved here in the summer 2022, I knew I was going to get back into woodworking. What I didn't know is that I would become obsessed with turning bowls. It has been a great hobby for me.

 

I guess I'm low intermediate skill level at this point. I'm looking forward to learning from the folks here. The spalted bowls are sugarberry, something I have literally tons of.

I'm not much of a traditional turned but I would say you're well above low intermediate skill level. 

 

I don't suppose you're planning a road trip through central Texas with a trailer full of wood any time soon, are you? Just asking for a friend.

Wow, those are awesome, past the intermediate in my opinion. Great group of turners here (I'm not one of them, just a neophyte) and I'm looking forward to seeing more of your stuff.

Headhunter, I have one up on ya.  My granddaughter goes to college in Nashville.

Welcome Kent to The Patriot Woodworker. Great to have you on board with us. I'm not a woodturner but I know enough to recognize talent by the results. I agree with what others have said, your skills exceed low intermediate by leaps and bounds. Great looking pieces!

 

Columbia, TN; If memory serves me, the self-proclaimed "mule capital of the world. It's been a long long time ago, but I lived in Nashville when I attended auto-diesel college there. Ate my very first Krispy-Kreme over on Gallatin Road as well as my first Shoneys. Both conveniently located close to the campus. Lots of good memories and times spent in Nashville and the surrounding areas. But I digress.

 

Now for the project critique; all would look so much better if they were filled with an assortment of doughnuts. And speaking of donuts, new guy always buys for the group; your day is Friday. See you in the break room...early! I'm only bringing this up because @Headhunter,  Tony is too shy to ask.

As others have said, welcome aboard Kent.  Great pics and thanks for posting them up.  If your work is "low intermediate" there will never be any hope for me

Yep, Columbia is called Muletown. They have Mule Days in the spring. I moved here from Las Vegas in 2022. Big difference!

I'll be following your posts. I like them all but those spalteds  are incredible  Thanks for posting.

 

I've been to Columbia Tenn. many times years ago. My BIL's work required frequent moves so he and my sis lived several places down there. Nice town. Welcome sir. 

Welcome Kent…Chattanooga here. Those bowls are awesome. One day I’ll buy a lathe. Right now my minor obsession is CNC lol
