I had thought they stopped those shows altogether (shows what I know). I see they're in Columbus again, although it's still not likely I'll go.

IIRC, the last one in AZ was the early 90s. The sponsoring tool co.s were pretty sparse. They must've given up on us desert dwellers. 

The first ones I went to were shoulder to shoulder and had some good vendors.  I started taking off work on Fridays so it wouldn't be so crowded.   The last ones I went to at 2:30 you could empty an A-15 down the aisle and not hit anyone.  You can get a plane that uses razor blades, but not the "it slices, it dices" Zyliss vises.

I might go to the one in Kansas City.  Depends on finances.

Got one of each.  Hidden auction treasures this past year. Plane was in original box and even came with a "vintage" double edge blade so quite valuable.

First one I attended was several years back just after I retired. Didn't have a lot of extra cash then. Bought my ticket on-line even to save a few bucks. Arrived prior to opening time; long line already waiting to get in. It was wall-to-wall people all day. I stayed until the show ended. You had to arrive at the free seminars 15-20 minutes early to get a seat especially for Alex Snodgrass or Jim Heavy. Most booths had long lines as well. There were some good buys at times. Afterwards I'd usually drive on East for a visit to both Rockler and Woodcraft.

 

Haven't been for some time now. The Indy show dates moved for a few years which always coincided with our local swim sectionals prelims and finals. Weather was an issue a couple years too.

 

Too be honest, not sure I'd feel safe going. State Fairgrounds is not in a particularly good area of Indy anymore. At least one or two are shot and killed daily quite often on the E/ NE side. IDK if the Gun & Knife show is still held the same weekend. It was always in the adjacent building. Went to it once but the lines to get in typically were a 1/2 mile or longer.

Good enough.  My son and his family are still living with me, so finances are extremely limited.  Thursday, I was in my shop.  I went around a makeshift bench to check on something, lost my balance, and fell into a bunch of equipment on the floor.  Skinned up my right forearm, left shin, and banged my ribs.  No visible marks on my ribs, but that is what hurts the most.  Just a matter of working through it.  I know I haven't posted anything about the display table I'm working on, but my time has been taken up with learning how to use the tapering jig I made for the table legs.  It's a plan out of Woodsmith mag.  Once I get back to the actual table, I'll post a couple of progress pics.  All in all, except for my two left feet, everything is going ok.  Thanks for asking.

Understand where you're at with family living with you. BTDT. In spite of the challenges, change in lifestyle and tight finances, there are rewards and some benefits too. Hang in there.

 

Sorry to hear of your accident Tom. I fully get that stumbling, balance issue. Bruised ribs can be as, if not more, painful than broken ribs. Take care of yourself.

The one in W. Springfield MA is about 2 hours away. I might go, try to get my mojo back.

I think you're right about bruised vs broken ribs.  Each day is just a tiny bit better.  The worst thing is getting out of my recliner, and getting settled in bed for the night.  I maybe should have gone to the ER to get the ribs checked out, but what can they do for ribs, except for some BBQ sauce.  Seriously, I didn't want to deal with elastic bandages around my torso.  I'm too fat for that.  Thanks for the concern Dave, I appreciate it.

Geeze, Tom. Just read about your fall. Glad you're on the mend, now. I agree, BBQ sauce won't do anything for your ribs. Just make a mess and soil your shirt.

Thanks Gene.  I actually feel better today than yesterday.  I still have to move somewhat gingerly though..

Good to hear Tom. My worst experience with bruised and a couple cracked ribs was many years ago. Got "t-boned" on a service call. Rolled the pick-up I was driving upside down into a ditch. No seat belts or shoulder harness. Lucky to have survived let alone walk (limp) away. A few stitches to sew my eyebrow back together. About three days later, I was all the primary colors as well as secondary colors and a few never seen before from my shoulders to my ankles. It took a few weeks for the ribs to heal. The pick-up ('67 C10, Chevy) did not survive.
