kmealy Posted November 27, 2023 Report Posted November 27, 2023 For a number of years, I have been using Elmer's wood filler in a tube. Goes in and sands almost immediately. It's getting harder to find (looking for something that would work with cherry) and more expensive. Looking to see what others use and like. I typically use it to fill a nail hole before sanding and finishing. I have a plethora of other fillers -- wax sticks, pigmented sticks, soft and hard burn in sticks but looking for something early on in the process for small holes. What do you like and where do you get it? Not real fond of the Minwax stuff. Some brands even say they are "non-drying" Grandpadave52, DuckSoup and Cal 3 Quote

Gerald Posted November 28, 2023 Report Posted November 28, 2023 (edited) I have had good lick with Timber Mate at Woodcraft. They only list one color (oak) now but it is made in other colors. Found it on Amazon But My bottle is only about 2 ounce. I think it was Ralph Jones who clued us in on it many years back. Gene Howe Posted November 28, 2023 Report Posted November 28, 2023 Been using Timber mate for years. It does dry out in the container, though. At least it does in AZ. Found that a drop or two of cooking oil and mixed in, will restore it. Grandpadave52, Cal and DuckSoup 3 Quote

kmealy Posted November 29, 2023 Author Report Posted November 29, 2023 I was on Amazon for some other stuff and noted that the Walnut version of Elmer's was less than $6, the natural version almost $10, and the mahogany almost $11. Same sizes. Just a pinch of pigment? What's up with that? Grandpadave52, Cal and DuckSoup 2 1 Quote

Wondering if this product is going the same route as Johnson's Paste Wax? Cal and DuckSoup 2 Quote

The SC Johnson paste wax was discontinued over a year ago. HERE While there are other manufacturers of similar alternative products the original Johnson's blend is gone unless you want to sell a lung or kidney to purchase a can off eBay or Amazon. https://forum.shopsmith.com/viewtopic.php?t=23425 See discussion held here. About the middle of the first page see @Fred W. Hargis Jrcomments after he contacted SC Johnson directly. DuckSoup 1 Quote
