I have a old power hacksaw made by the West Haven Mfg. Co. from New Haven, Conn. It is called a Acme Hack Saw Machine. What lube should I put in the small holes in the castings where round bars that hold the gears and pulley are? What type of lube should be used on the slide bars the hack saw frame moves on. The slide bars have reservoirs that have a sponge type filling that holds lubrication. The sponge material has hardened over time. The machine has a hydraulic lift mechanism to lift the blade. What type of oil can be used in the hydraulic fluid reservoir for the lift pump?

Thanks for any help,

First off welcome to the Patriot Woodworker. :D

I found two catalogs for the West Haven Mfg. Co..

The first dated 1912.

The second 1918.

For the slides and oil holes I would use a non detergent 30 weight oil, for the hydraulic reservoir hydraulic jack oil.

Welcome @RTJ49 to The Patriot Woodworker. Glad to have you on-board.

Agree with @Larry Buskirks recommendations for lubricants. Another safe alternative for the hydraulic lift would be a non-detergent 10W oil. Also, multiple purpose hydraulic fluid used in farm machinery, log splitter and the like such as THIS or THIS.
