I just purchase this sand and I’m in the process of reconditioning it. When I took it apart the idler pulley shaft had a fairly severe bend in it.  I found it hard to believe someone could actually bend it but decided to straighten it.  I have the machine running but it doesn’t track properly.  The sanding belt is loose on the side that was bent. No amount of tracking adjustment will eliminate the the slack.  Does anyone know if the shaft originally had a bend?

Not knowing more about your sander, it's hard to say. But, I don't think a sander's idler shaft should be bent. That thing has seen some rough treatment. Probably dropped on it's nose once or twice.

Welcome aboard @Phil52, glad to have you here.  I'll just second what Gene said.

Can you provide us what your sander is, make & model, or pics?

@Phil52. I'll echo what Gene and Cal have said. Without model, manufacturer info as well as portable, stationary it's very difficult to provide any assistance. Pictures along with the other basic information would greatly improve the chances to resolve your issue.

Appreciate you joining The Patriot Woodowrker. We're definitely willing to help given some additional information.
