October 14, 20232 yr Popular Post Most of us have this woodworking toll in out automotive department. I need to sand too many cove / radius features on some red oak table legs, 48 of them to be exact. Like most I hate sanding but I also hate myself after a ton of work to make something and not sand it proper before finish. This tool from my socket set helped a bunch maybe it can help you too. Pictures are shots of the coves on the legs , each leg has 12. the other pictures are from my socket set. A correctly sized deep socket in this case with a 1/2 inch OD fit the need. Add a little sandpaper with double sided tape or the adhesive backed stuff. Add a socket extension of any length to assist hold and control and sand away. The pics should help the story ask any questions. calabrese55

If my post helps folks here and on a couple other forums to make work easier or inspire some broader application by another woodworker then I am pretty happy with that. I really appreciate that folks comment on my posts good or bad and that is way more than good with me. I like it here and I am happy to help. If someone wants to kick this up a notch I don't even care about any mention strictly open source madness calabrese55 Edited October 14, 20232 yr by calabrese55

October 15, 20232 yr Love that idea! Nice thing is that you don't even have to remove the sandpaper to still be able to use the socket. 4D
October 15, 20232 yr Author Thanks Paul & 4D for looking in. I do tend to leave the sandpaper on using the excuse that I can use it again next time. The real reason is i am basically lazy calabrese55
October 15, 20232 yr Great idea Mike. Appreciate you sharing it. After seeing your extension idea made me think if one would use these types of extensions with your drill, you could create an oscillating spindle sander of sorts.

Thanks Dave I actually have similar but I used a Dremel tool with a sanding drum initially to eliminate some router burn on the oak end grain. The longer hand held gig as posted is the the counter to my propensity to screw things when my impatience teams up with too much power. A man has got to know his limitations. calabrese55 Edited October 15, 20232 yr by calabrese55
