September 5, 20232 yr A guy near me has a jet jwbs-14cs available on fb. Looks very clean, price dropped to $550. What do you think? What should I look for? Not seeing how to attach a link! Myrtle Beach area marketplace. TIA.
September 5, 20232 yr Price wise, that's about what I see around us locally...so I don't think the price is terribly out of line. As to that type of saw, they were the shop mainstay bandsaws for many years, though it looks like the steel framed style is becoming more popular. But they are still useful for a lot of functions. Whether the saw is suitable for your use will depend on what you expect from it. About the only thing I would check (after I hear it run) is the tires to see they are good and the table trunnions (curved pieces holding the table i place). I looked it up and it does look very well cared for so it's not likely to have any problems. Just my opinion, that and $5 or so will get you a cup of coffee. Edited September 5, 20232 yr by Fred W. September 5, 20232 yr Fred's advice is spot on. Pluses is it has the upgraded Jet fence and enclosed cabinet base. Negatives is rust on table top; which can be cleaned, but may leave stains behind; hopefully no pitting. Without looking up the specs, IDK if the wheels are cast iron or aluminum. Pretty sure riser block kits are still available to increase cut height to 12" if you need resaw capacity. Very similar to the GRIZZLY Model here and the SHOP FOX model here. Worth the trip to take a closer look. IMO, I'd offer $450 on site only if you're prepared to load it up and take it with you. $500 wouldn't be unreasonable either, but personally I'd start at $450 based on the table rust. Keep us posted and good luck Jim.
September 5, 20232 yr Looks like a good deal to me . The rust looks superficial probably from long time stored.
September 5, 20232 yr Author Thanks to all who replied. I sent the seller a message today, and when I checked back, he had marked it sold. Oh, well.
September 6, 20232 yr There is a rule over at OWWM about asking about the value of a used tool. By the time you get the replies it will be sold (or something like that). Oh, here it is: "OWWM rule #5: In the time between finding a machine and asking others if you should buy it someone else will come to the proper conclusion."

September 7, 20232 yr Author In both cases, I sent the sellers a message, then they were marked sold. Just guessing that they had already sold, but they hadn’t bothered to note that.
September 7, 20232 yr You could be right, some folks aren't in a hurry to marked their stuff sold....it's pretty aggravating. I know the few times i've sold something I always tried to remove the posting (CL) or the one thing on marketplace I sold I marked it that way right after I got paid.
