August 6, 20232 yr Popular Post So a friend of mine said he would like an end grain cutting board. So, I have never made one but thought what the heck. It would put to use the Bacon Padauk I picked up a couple of months ago…first glue up today.
August 9, 20232 yr Author Popular Post Sanded 80&120 spritz with water to raise the grain. If I get time tomorrow before catching a plane sand 220&320 and oil it up. Then put some wax on it.
August 9, 20232 yr The grain and pattern is amazing. That will be hard to use and scar it up. Looking forward to seeing it sanded and oiled up.
August 9, 20232 yr Author Did the final sanding this morning to 320. Put some Walrus oil on her. Sunday or Monday I’ll put some walrus cutting board wax on it. Thank you for the kind comments. Everyone on here has helped me to get to this point. So to you, I say, Thank you!
August 9, 20232 yr Very nice and a great grain pattern. Don't think I could do one without using my wide belt sander, it really saves time on this type project. As a matter of fact I learned how to do these from @DAB years ago on the old Wood Forum, Just for those interested there is a app to help you design patterns in cutting boards. It is downloadable Here CBdesigner

I will look into that app. I played with the patterns and got lucky. I did spend a good bit of time sanding but it could have been worse.
August 10, 20232 yr Popular Post i just use a grid pad to work out my patterns. sometimes i'll do 2 glueups, and after cross cutting, then alternate from each pile to get the pattern i want. if you can draw it, you can make it in wood.
