July 31, 20232 yr Popular Post Here's our neighbor at the campground Cameron's first cuts on the lathe. He still has a lot to learn on technique, like keeping his hand further back on the handle, putting his left-hand forwards, and keeping his finger tight to the tool rest. But he turned 4 pizza cutter handles and wanted to keep going even after a few catches from rushing the cuts. since my lathe is a bit high for him, we'll be using a riser stand to help him keep the chisels at the proper cutting angle. Other than that, He's itching to keep going. Earlier this month his grandmother asked for a seam ripper, she doesn't know it but that will be made by him also.
August 1, 20232 yr Great start. i will make a suggestion do not ask him to keep a finger on tool rest. That can lead to some injuries as especially beginners get catches and that finger will get it. Only need to xrest the alternate hand on top of tool as the other hand does the work. Have seen many pros say this .
