Just out of curiosity looked up the number of deaths from using Lichtenberg or Fractil Burning.

This has figures apparently from either Europe or worldwide:

US Figures:

Had not realized this was a world wide problem.

Not sure of the voltage but I think it is about 2.2 thousand volts and some setups even higher and by the time you feel it it is too late and you cannot let go.

This video start at about 7:22 has the best explanation I have seen as well as pictures of the few who have survived.

Thanks Gerald for the facts and figures. Good reminder for NOT trying something new. Not a practice I WILL EVER attempt. Warning labels on microwaves (especially the old ones) warn against disassembly unless you are highly trained. Capacitors can store up residual high voltage for some time that can lead to a fatal discharge. While the work can turn out some amazing looking results, the risk is just not worth it. Enough risk in woodworking with sharp, spinning things.
