July 3, 20233 yr Popular Post Finishing a dog bowl station. Twas a time such a mundane project wouldn't deserve to be posted here but, it's all I got. Now that my chauffeuring duties are done until Phyl's surgery on the 17th, I'll be able to get to some more interesting projects.
July 3, 20233 yr Popular Post Over the weekend: ☒ Granddaughters CEL light, P0440, most common cause, loose fuel cap...and it was; Fuel cap install school ensued; at least 3 clicks after tight. ☒ Grandsons, new to them 4x7 air hockey table moved to basement, reassembled and playoff series started ☒ Tire gage located and stored in Buick glove compartment -- Strategy to lower off-center TV tower still under assessment; positive though, rescanning the OTA set-up added a few new channels -- Round 2 of "pick-up sticks" yet to begin. Week ahead: □ Apparently granddaughters horn only works intermittently; most common cause(s) identified; always get nervous removing air bag module even with battery disconnected □ Family 4th fireworks event tonight; need to move cement board scraps to launch site and set-up lawnchairs, oh air up wheel barrow tire first □ As Adrian Monk used to say, "Both a blessing and a curse"; with the rain we've had, mowing will again be on tap this week. □ Honey do jobs still buffering waiting to be downloaded. □ Perhaps some shop time; TBD
July 3, 20233 yr Popular Post Hauled a bunch of totes full of son's collections to his property and out of my shop floor. Still need to figure what kind of heavy wrench I need to get tines off tiller and grease gears so that too can get out of my shop. Got to go to store and pick up a few items and then to shop for some turning.

July 4, 20233 yr Popular Post A rather large week is staring at me. After a few errands yesterday AM I spent the rest of the day applying finish to shelving and then began moving stuff from one garage to another. That moving job continues today as I prepare to have the upper garage floor sealed and coated. I could have done it myself, but having watched and read a fair amount of reviews - and less than acceptable results from an earlier job I did in the lower garage, I decided to farm this one out to the "experts". Both sister and sister-in-law had this company come in and do their floors and the results (early) are really nice. That takes place Thursday. We've had a couple afternoon thundershowers pop up, mowing the yard is on tap for tomorrow. Our son is headed down on Thursday to spend a few days with us Today's cook-out gets started around 4:00 I am told. Tools put away, doors to shop and garages locked, showered and a cold one (or two) and I'll be set for it
July 4, 20233 yr Popular Post You'd have to be totally nuts to plan a cook out this time of the year in our area. Plastic lawn chairs collapse in this heat. Metal ones get too hot to sit on. Actually, wood ones are not all that much cooler. Our covered patio is like a dry sauna. Frying an egg on the sidewalk is no joke. Could probably cook a cheeseburger, too, Edited July 4, 20233 yr by Gene Howe
July 4, 20233 yr Popular Post Plan on napping this afternoon as this evening will be impaled with bursts of sound and flashing lights thanks to the holiday. City park a couple blocks from me will put on an explosive show to light up the sky and contribute to the scaring of dogs and other pets who can't rationalize what is happening on this particular day. The rest of the city will continue the show until midnight (officially) so I can expect some quiet sleep around 2:00am. Needless to say I love the day. Seriously.
July 5, 20233 yr Popular Post Evening of the 4th was a bust. Started out as usual, but apparently Mr. Sky was unimpressed and decided to show off with a thunder and lightning storm. Must have chased the celebrators inside, embarrassed with their wimpy efforts compared to the weather show. Storm must have done some tree damage as this morning was full of chainsaw sounds coming from the neighborhood. Power went out for 1/2 an hour this morning as crews cleared fallen limbs from the power lines. Now I hear jack hammers chewing up sections of the nearby streets to finally repair potholes and raised cracks left over from winter and truck abuse. The road beside my corner house wasn't designed for heavy truck traffic, but is currently a detour route as the main route north of me is getting redesigned/another lane and is closed. Big trucks have helped show where the weak spots were on that street. 4D (wearing my 30 decibel hearing protection)
July 5, 20233 yr Popular Post Was trying to avoid Monday...been working on getting a $2 Yard sale find fixed up... From this rusty mess of a Millers Falls No. 72c Mitre Box...to.. I also had the saw to fit...since the OEM one was long gone.....2 day rehab...may write up a blog about it? Saw does need to be sharpened back up...saw is 5" x 28" long... Too bloody hot right now to do much of anything....once it gets above 80 degrees, I tend to get in trouble from the heat.... Almost a "WET BULB" day?

July 6, 20233 yr We had one just like that in the college shop when I was a student. Still there when I came back to teach a few years later. Eventually it got demoted to a smaller model shop area that stayed open all night for students to use, but disappeared when the building was remodeled. Now as students are leery of using our big compound sliding miter saws for small cutoffs the "fab lab" bought a modern over-engineered (IMO) manual trim saw that is used for those small parts. 4D
