Hey folks, there is a pile of wood nearby that I may go pick up, could be used for small crafts, spoon carving etc, can anyone ID this cut wood? It's the only picture I have.

If it was around here, my first guess would be walnut judging by the dark center. However, some of the bark doesn't look quite like it.

knowing your location my guess is either desert ironwood or texas ebony

It does look a lot like walnut but location is king and there is a lot of heart wood in all pieces I have not seen in local black walnut.
