So this was made by my Uncle David. He is a Vietnam vet. I credit him with getting me started with woodworking, after being in a dark place mentally. He is walking the slow mile now and unable to continue his work and his most beloved hobby. I can honestly say He is one of the people in my life that I don't know where I would be now without his influence. You never know when you share your craft with a person how it helps them and where it will take them in life. Teaching to me is one of the most important things a human can do for another. This piece is the size both height and length of a medium sized sofa. I can not say how long it took him to make.

Thank you Lissa for sharing the artwork and backstory.  Your uncle is very talented and you have been lucky to have had the benefits of his teaching.  I am pretty darned sure that he has seen your growth in the craft and has a taken a lot of pride in it.  Credit to you for being receptive to your uncle's sharing and teaching.  And I agree, teaching is most important.  Prayers out for both you and your uncle.

Add one more to the list. The sad thing is that there are many willing to pass on the gift of working with wood but few willing to be taught.

I agree even my own son. Seems most young adults are into electronic things. Don't get me wrong I video games too. But nothing is better than smelling wood or more gratifying!
