Thanks Keith, this is marked to watch on my morning "walk" in a bit :)

it's where you hide your herbs!!!

Thanks for the video link.  Of course revealing the secrets makes me think there must be a 4th hidden compartment he kept to himself where he'll actually keep the cash wads and other valuables. ;)

false cabinet back, space under the drawers, false side panels, hollow legs, space under that floating top.....all kinds of places you can hide stuffs.

My preference would be a sign on the cabinet saying "Hidden here lies the treasure", but actually keep my valuables somewhere else in the house less obvious. Then leave something like a chocolate covered mint in every hidden place, including those you mentioned, to make the seeker believe they found a treasure reward for their successful search. :)

fortune favors the bold.

Matthew 6:20-21 -

20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:

21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

Just keep the cash and valuables where all the tape measures and pencils are kept. Nobody will find them then. HINT: Usually near your glasses and car keys.

What is this thing cash?  I seem to have a hazy recollection... but nothing recent.   And valuables, why do you not just keep your eggs and groceries in the fridge like the rest of us? :ChinScratch:

But @kmealy - great video, I enjoyed it and may try to include such somewhere.

Every once in a while I see "secret hiding places" article.   The first place I'd look is a mayo jar that has been sprayed with off-white paint on the inside.

Now we know where to look first in your house.  ;)

If I had something to hide, then among the 30+ pieces of furniture I made for myself in my house I'd hollow out the non-critical thicker parts to make a pocket.  Cap it with matching wood panel held in place by magnets.  Inside face of the part so only noticeable if under the the piece where usually only small pets visit.  Then I'd make a few extra hidden pockets with a red paint filled explosive charge embedded that will explode if the pocket is opened up.  Then I'd make sure to never mention my hiding strategy on the web or in casual conversations. ;)

In a related but dated story, my 1st wife knew I loved chocolate, but so did she. At that time I had a full time 9 to 5 job and she taught school.  She was usually already home when I got home from work.  On more than one occasion when I came home we'd be chatting about how our days went.  I would almost subconsciously drift over to the shelves or desk in the room and casually pickup something to fiddle with as I talked.   Usually a decorative container or lidded box. I'd inevitably open it and discover M&Ms hiding there.   My ex was always mystified and a little angry that I'd found her chocolate stash as she had no idea how I found it so easily.  I never let her know I could smell chocolate.  ;)

So my advice when hiding your valuables is make sure they aren't something that can be smelled.   :)

An old man lived alone. His only son was in prison. The old man wrote a letter to his son.

Dear Son,

I am feeling pretty bad because it looks like I won’t be able to plant my potato garden this year. I’m just getting too old to be digging up a garden plot. If you were here, all my troubles would be over. I know you would dig the plot for me, if you weren't in prison.

Love,

Dad

Shortly, the old man received this e-mail from his son in prison:

‘For Heaven’s sake, Dad, don’t dig up the plot. That’s where I buried the money from the bank robbery!!’

At 4 a.m. the next morning, a dozen FBI agents and local police officers showed up and dug up the entire garden without finding any money. Confused, the old man wrote another note to his son telling him what had happened, and asked him what to do next.

His son’s reply: ‘Go ahead and plant your potatoes, Dad. It’s the best I could do for you, from here.’
