May 17, 20233 yr Author Howdy, guys I’m working on a Patagonian Rosewood 5/4 slab, about 68”x24” as the top for a coffee table in front of the sofa. I’ve attached hard maple 2”x 1-1/2” x 18””cross pieces 6” from each end to counter cupping and bowing, the center screwed down tightly, the outer screws in oval holes. I have to fit in a butterfly to counter a split on one end. Should be easy. I’ll turn the legs from 3” cherry. I’ll send pictures shortly. Don

May 18, 20232 yr Author None of these photos are of the completed project, but just in-progress. Lots of sanding and scraping to go. For example, there is a new coat of shellac seen. This will be sanded down and several more applied. After the legs are attached, final sanding to 240 will be followed by a 3-4 week wait, to ensure all shellac off-gassing is over, then paste wax. The legs will be from 3x3cherry stock, 14” long. I’ll soften them from mere square stock, but you won’t be able to clearly see them, so simplicity will be the rule. Don
May 18, 20232 yr That's a gorgeous hunk of walnut. and, it looks like it's going to be very nice table, too.
