My military career, in order:

Navy Corpsman, California then Japan

FMF Combat Corpsman, 1st Marine Air Wing, VietNam

Line Officer, USN

Medical Corps Officer, Amphibious Squadron 6 Surgeon.

Now: just a 74y/o old fart medically retired grandpa and denizen of my shop where I make furniture and sawdust.

Oh, by the way, 3 years 8 days post double lung transplant at Duke, due to Agent Orange.

Thats about it!

Don

Glad you are here.  Look forward to your participation.

My apologies for the late greetings Don.

First and foremost, THANK-YOU for your distinguished service.

Welcome aboard to The Patriot Woodworker. Glad you found us and hitched up for the tour. Great folks here. Thankful to hear you continue to do well after your transplants.  Looking forward to your participation hearing and seeing your projects.

Only two real requirements here..."pictures or it didn't happen" and you provide donuts as the "newbie". Your day is tomorrow🤣

@Donny, a hearty welcome and a huge thank you for your service. It's wonderful to hear that your agent orange affliction was treated successfully.  You do wear a mask in the shop, don't you?

I have a whole collection of masks, including those with job-specific spin-on canisters. I’d like to day that I am diligent in using masks, but……. Most of the time.

Hi and welcome. Lots of friendly, knowledgeable people here, sounds like the number just went up one.

Welcome aboard Don.  Thank you for your service. Lots of friendly woodworkers here always ready to help.

Howdy, guys

I’m working on a Patagonian Rosewood

5/4 slab, about 68”x24” as the top for a coffee table in front of the sofa. I’ve attached hard maple 2”x 1-1/2” x 18””cross pieces 6” from each end to counter cupping and bowing, the center screwed down tightly, the outer screws in oval  holes. I have to fit in a butterfly to counter a split on one end. Should be easy.

I’ll turn the legs from 3” cherry. I’ll send pictures shortly.

Don

Sounds like a 🏆.  Anxiously awaiting the reveal.

None of these photos are of the completed project, but just in-progress.

Lots of sanding and scraping to go.

After the legs are attached, final sanding to 240 will be followed by a 3-4 week wait, to ensure all shellac off-gassing  is over, then paste wax. The legs will be from 3x3cherry stock, 14” long. I’ll soften them from mere square stock, but you won’t be able to clearly see them, so simplicity will be the rule.
