Honey Locust Carving Mallet

I was visiting my FB buddy @Roper- Roper on his page and I saw that he had turned a beautiful carving mallet, and he had it in his Etsy shop for sale. I could not pass this up, the craftsmanship is wonderful, and I loved the fact that a fellow woodworker made this for us, woodworkers.

Could I have made such a mallet, I suppose so, but I would never have thought of this design, the design by Roper Roper, so ya, I can turn a mallet, but not this one, this one came from his mind, and I love the shape, the style, the wood species, the turned lines etc.

Based on the image, and the description, I purchased it, I love supporting our craftsmen and women, we should support each other when ever possible.

So I ordered my mallet from Roper, and in days it was at my doorstep, I removed it from the box and what a wonderful mallet it is. It's hefty, perfectly so, and fits my hand nicely. I can't wait to use it and when I do I am sure it will not disappoint.

Please see Roper's Etsy page, I think he will make more of these mallets.

You bet Gramps, there's nothing like handmade. A store bought mallet made in a manufacturing facility, just don't compare :)

You got that right. Our friend Lew turned one for me, along with a beautiful French rolling pin for Phyl. They both occupy places of honor in our respective work areas. Thanks for the post. It serves as a nudge to publicly acknowledge Lew's enormous generosity.

That is a beauty John, for sure.

John, let us see what you have been carving?

I choose this as my mallet years ago when I first started playing with wood

and have never wanted to change to something else. If what you are beating

on is sharp then something small works great!

Amazing, Jesse. Can't tell if the Hummer was cut from the mounting board. If not, the placement is very well done, That oughtta be framed. Anyone would be delighted to hang that on their wall.

Spectacular Patch. Love the detail on the hummingbird with the gentle flow depression relief of the background as well as the natural finish.
