An interesting video and one of a large series on traditional hand tools.  

 

 

Bit of background.  I met Graham on the internet years ago.   A number of years later, he was speaking at PopWood's seminar and I was working the AV.  I was surprised he remembered me by name, even though we never met in person.  He lived in Woodstock, NY at the time and was actually a musician in the Woodstock music festival 1969.  He is an accomplished hand tool woodworker and wrote some books and articles for PopWood back in the day.

Thanks Keith. I've been watching some of his videos lately. Interesting fellow; does an excellent job presenting basic techniques for both the new as well as the experienced hand tool user. He has an amazing hand tool collection.

A very interesting video. I'm seing a lot of what I've missed with woodworking with hand tools. My experience using spoke shaves and hand tools in general has been very limited.

Nice. And very impressive that, unlike almost all the young modern videoists … presenters? … he did itvalmost straight through with no editing.  I think I saw one time where he stopped and restarted.

I am familiar with Graham Blackburn, I have a couple of his books that I used for research for our wiki, but I had not idea he made videos! Thanks for the heads up Keith! I have enjoyed this video a whole lot.

Ok … now i’m looking at several of his videos.  All good.  But i think i found an error.   
#11 planing long boards.  Go to 5:50 where he uses a stanley 95 to square the edge   I think he used it on the wrong face of the board: he seemed to have the blade trim the wide face of the board, not the edge

Ya he screwed up, he does frequently in his videos actually but we all know what he meant

FWIW, I got acquainted with Graham many years ago.  He had contacted me about something on a book he was doing.  At the time I was interested in the "Old Tools" internet forum (that I frequented when I was bored at work).  Anyway, I hooked him up and he sent me a copy of his book.  A number of years later, I was a volunteer helper at PopWood (when they were still a thing and in town) Woodworking in America.  I was running the A/V at one of the sessions and Graham, by coincidence, was the speaker.  I was shocked when he remembered me from our brief interaction a few years earlier.

Also as an aside, he was living and working in Woodstock, NY.   Graham is also a musician and performed at the 1969 Woodstock Festival.
