Good Monday morning!

Good Monday morning Patriot Woodworkers! What did you get done over the weekend, and what have you planned for the week ahead! Inquiring minds want to know. Please tell us what's happening in your shops, your life, and any events going on with you. Thank you for being here folks!

Merry Christmas

This will be my last Monday entry between now and Christmas, from my family to you and yours, have a lovely Christmas and be safe in all you do, don't let the craziness of our world fog the mind from that which is most important, slow down, take a breath, and may you have a joyous and most awesome Christmas Season!

If you will allow me, I'd like to leave you with this simple prayer of Christmas,

"Deliver us from evil, by the blessing that Christ brings, and teach us to be merry with clean hearts. May the Christmas morning make us happy to be thy children, And the Christmas evening bring us to our bed with grateful thoughts, forgiving and forgiven, for Jesus' sake. Amen."

Roasting Coffee

I have been interested in roasting coffee for my own use and I finally jumped in and took advantage of some downtime I had the other evening. If you'd like to follow me on my "Campfire" roasting adventure please see my topic at:

My favorite running craft series has dropped another two episodes of PBS's "Craft in America" and I am excited to be able to sit down quietly with a nice coffee in hand, the fire place crackling, and to view the two newest episodes, "Inspiration" and "Home". Till then I'll leave you with this wonderful slice of the "Home" episode, enjoy. :)

Finished all the Christmas projects and gave them away at the family Christmas party on Saturday.  Everyone enjoyed them.  The games got some competition going which kept cell phone use to a minimum.  Good times.

This week shall be used to put the shop back in it's usual state of disarray instead of the complete chaos it's in now.

This is awesome, way to go Dan, I take it the cell phone is typically in play by the grand-kids, and they ignored them for the games?

That's my goal each year.  They look forward to it.  The adults get to join in too.  I was surprised the attention the shoot the moon game got.

Working the J.O.B Mon-Thur this week.  The office is closed on Friday and I will be on vacation until after the 1st of the year following that.  683 days to retirement.

I received an Elbo2 from Tim Yoder last week.  Planning on getting that setup at some point, but will probably have to wait until after Christmas.  Adam the plumber is on the calendar to help me plumb in an air compressor line that runs from the shed to the shop.  It will be nice to relocate the noise to another building.  Planning on running 3/4" pex with regulators on either side.  Looking at a 30gal Dewalt to replace the 10yr old portable twin tank Ingersoll-Rand down the road.  It still runs but getting a little tired.

Another busy weekend. Christmas Luncheon with Pastor, wife, Deacons and wives was a nice Saturday afternoon. Pastor loves his football. We all (men) watched the Indianapolis Colts set a new NFL record. No team has led by 33 point at half-time and lost...well until Saturday. Colts lost to the Vikings in OT, 33-36.

Yesterday, some errands after church, then my wife reminded me youngest grandson had last two basketball club league (8-9 y/o) games. Up to Lafayette. Late start times since they were in the "platinum elimination round." First game was against a true travel league team. Tough team, but they held on for the win by 3 points. On to league championship game 15 minutes later. Another very talented team. They trailed most of the way, but great coaching, tough play by tired kids, got the win at the end, again by 3 points. Free throws do matter. His team won their league, 7-1 on the season. He played very well. After medal presentations, we all went out to eat. Got home about 9:45P.

Youngest step-brother informed me yesterday afternoon, oldest stepbrother had passed away. He had been in declining health for several years and especially the last few months. While never confirmed by the VA, much of his ill health and the cancers are likely due to Agent Orange. He was a helicopter mechanic. We weren't close. Only saw each other 1-2x year. Less the past few years. Completley different life styles and choices. His dad, my mom married after we were both older. Never lived in the same household together. I did see him a few weeks ago for a couple hours before he got really bad. Don't know arrangements yet.

Busy week ahead especially with Christmas and now the foreboding winter storm forecast. Lot of errands to do (so I've been told), plus storm preparations.

Went HD this morning and picked up 20 ea. 60 lb bags of cement and 2 ea. 20' sticks of rebar. Unloaded that at home then, went to the rock yard a brought home a ton of ABC for our  boys who are going to build a remote controlled gate opener for us for Christmas. It's an 11'wide, 8' high steel/chain link gate on wheels. It's not all that hard to push it open and shut but, pushing a button will be a whale of a lot easier. :OldManSmiley:

Nothing fancy but I got a good start re-doing my segment calculator to make it more user friendly. I'll make it available as a program for Debian based Linux or as a spreadsheet for the rest. So you enter the desired OD, ID and number of segments, kerf and length of the material and the calculator tells you how long to cut the segments and how wide they should be and how much material is left in the stick after cutting the segments. This way you know you have enough material to safely cut the segments with enough for the last one.

Trying to find the source of cold air in the machine shop this afternoon before the single digit temps get here. Gotta move a ton of equipment...

Had a meeting at the furniture bank this morning to discuss a few things -- improved dust collection, improving workflow, organizing tools and materials, etc.   More productive than many meetings in my corporate career.

Finished up 4 multi use tables for the furniture bank.  Made from reclaimed stair treads (unused but rejected for some reason.)  Ready to deliver on Thursday.   They can be used for a TV stand, end table, nightstand, or kid's dining table bench.
