different size spindle threads & diameters.

Featured Replies

I bought a CHEAP Chinese wood lathe & am TRYING to get an adapter to bring the spindle down to 1 x 8 tpi.

So I bot a 1 1/4 x 8 tpi to 1 x 8 tpi adapter.

When I measure the spindle of the lathe I get CLOSE to 1 1/4.

When I put the purchased adapter on the spindle it won't thread even one turn.

Placing the purchased adapter thread to thread--- the threads are close but don't space out EXACTLY. BTW, the threads look rather deep in comparison to what I've seen on lathes.

So my question--- Does anyone know if wood lathes sold in non imperial countries have metric threads? If so, where do you buy conversion adapters??

Thks

@smitty10101 DO you have the brand name and model number of your lathe?

Sounds like the spindle is in metric but can't be sure without the more information.

brand name---Bilt Hard----no joke!

model # TL-WL1018

mini wood lathe

https://bilthardusa.com/product/wood-lathe/

STRANGELY---- the manual that  came with the lathe mentions to contact Harbor Freight with question & the manual shows a Central Machinery lathe in one of the pictures.

I called HF & they know nothing about Bilt Hard.

So I guess Bilt Hard just pirated the manual from a HF lathe.  Go figure.

I have an inquiry into Bilt Hard but haven't rec'd an answer yet.

Google.  I have bought some adapters from these people.  Good service and good product.

I don't understand, that lathe should have a 1" X 8 thread. Its MT2 and looks exactly like any 10" lathe.

According to the specifications page referenced by Dan the threads are metric

Question: What is the thread size for head stock chuck?

Answer: The thread of the head stock is metric - M33 x 3.5mm.

Moved topic from the Tips forum to the Turners forum :)

After numerous back & forth with the company---this AM they claimed that the metric size is  correct for that lathe.

I, so nicely(?), informed that I would probably return the lathe back to Amazon.

Let's see if they blink.
