Dust Collector Help

Featured Replies

Recently I've been helping my nephew make a bunch of cutting boards to help fund his first semester in college.  Basically a lot of tablesaw, jointer, and surface planer work.  During the midst of it all the dust collector just quit working all of a sudden.

I did basic troubleshooting.  The unit powers on but there is no suction.  There are no clogs.  It's not full.  No obvious leaks or tears in the hoses.  Could it be the impeller?

Very similar to this model....

Remove the hose from the collector body and turn it on. You should be able to see the impellor moving. It could be slipping on the motor shaft or have broken blades.

If as you say there are no clogs anywhere then it almost has to be an impeller related problem.

Great to have you posting again Forty...been missing you.

As others have noted, my quess is the impeller slipping on the motor shift. Sheared key perhaps??.

Thanks for all of the responses.  I'll take a look.  Hopefully, I can get parts for it.

There may be a clog right at the inlet.  The cross hairs are known for catching shavings and clogging things up.  I cut them out of mine.

Just a quick update.  I found a "cakes" of accumulated dust inside the housing.  I broke that up with a screwdriver and got it working again.  Kind of a PITA, but after a dozen years use I guess that's to be expected.

Hey forty, just curious, do you or have you cut a lot pine? Overtime pine will cake like that.

Glad you got it going and was a relatively (at least inexpensive) easy fix. Appreciate you updating the thread. It might help others in the future.

By the wheel or at the outlet chute?

In the wheel, enough that the impeller had worn a grove in the sawdust cake in some spots..

Plenty of pine over the years.  That and the humidity here were contributing factors for sure.
