Skirt storage building and ramp

Featured Replies

My son just added a storage building to his property 12x18 barn style. We are looking at skirting options and would like opinions. Seeing maybe vinyl lattice with hardware cloth attached to deter rodents as a option. Ideas and opinions??

Second project there is a need for a ramp to get Troy Built tiller and future zero turn into the building. Thinking of using stringers attached to building but two problems.

      1. since the door drops below sill there will be a bump going into building. Could cut the overlap off but he plans to put A/C in so that is not gonna happen. Will this bump hinder getting these items into building?

      2. I know that there must be protection for this connection to the sill. Would flashing under the door sill (metal sill) and out under the deck boards be enough?

Maybe I overthink this stuff and it is not mine but get the feeling if I don't he never will. Thanks

The tiller shouldn't e much of a problem, at least driving it in under it's own power. The lawn mower might be. Once the front wheels are in the shed and the back wheels still on the ramp, the deck may drag the. Simply raising it to max height might (or might not) solve the problem. The ramp's length (hence the angle at the apex) will have to be long enough to allow the mower over. I know on the last shed I built, the sill got pretty torn up by all kinds of things. I'm thinking the flashing won't be thick enough to help. I actually wound up putting a piece of perforated angle steel over the sill to prevent the damage. I doubt that will work with your son's set up, but you'll have to come up with something. What if the ramp isn't permanent? Removable ramps like these can easily be picked up and stored when not in use, and might solve the problem with sill damage. Just a though.

Thanks Fred. I had not thought about the drag from a mower being a problem.
