Worked on the next 16 board games for the charity Christmas toy drive.

By the numbers:

* 16 board games

* Roughly 15x11 inches

* 4 patterns in various configurations front and back

* 9, 13, 25, or 33 holes in each pattern

* triangles, squares, and octagons

* 11 different strategy games, plus variations

* Games from Scandinavia, Britain, Africa, Asia, and New Zealand

* 74 holes in each

* 1248 holes, each fairly accurately laid out, drilled, and sanded

* spent the day mentally counting to 3, 5, 7, and 9 to make sure I didn't skip any holes

Tomorrow, draw in grid lines and sweep the floor.

Got the grids drawn in today.  Took almost as much time as drilling the holes.  Then painted pegs for one team.   All pretty much done now but printing up direction sheets and packaging them.  Keeping one for myself and I'm putting some finish on it.  The club is real picky about "child-safe" stuff.  These will go out without finish like all the toys.

Good on you Keith. Will be hours of smiles by recipients.

If said recipients can get them away from their parents :D  or maybe grandparents would be more accurate...

Now, I'm scrounging up things to hold the pegs in.  Got some pint gelato jars from a friend, I threw in a bunch of plastic containers from Menards and just need a few more.

My wife and I will try out a few after dinner this week.

My goal in all the nearly 50 games I've made in the last month:

  • Variety from planes, trains, and automobiles (gee, that sounds like a movie) that are most of the toys made by the club
  • Suitable for older children
  • Suitable for boys or girls
  • Provide some basic strategy, logic, and/or math skills
  • More than one person can play at a time (most are 2,4, or unlimited)
  • Kids can play with parents if they don't have siblings or friends over.
  • Have variety of games (for the game boards)
  • Suitable for classroom for education or for rainy-day recesses, if the charity wants to go that way.

How many more do you need? I can start eating at 4pm ... On sale 2-for-$5, it is an affordable sacrifice for the cause.

Gosh, a friend of mine brought me 4 exactly like that Friday.  Put out a request at church and got a few more misc. containers and I pulled some plastic tubs with screw on lids, so I'm only needing a couple more things to put pegs in now.

How about ziplock bags?

Yeah, that's my fallback, but looking for something a bit more durable and permanent.  Just need one more now.

or those plastic pencil boxes that are fairly cheap around school time.

I use mine for Metamucil. Cat food. And the all-important Single Origin Wood Shavings for fireplace ceremonies. That's about eight.

In the cellar I've two 5 gal. clear bags filled with all manner of containers, from small mint and lip ointment tins to large cardboard oatmeal cylinders. The idea was that they'd go to the art department of an elementary school for decorating, but the kids are now too advanced for such frivolity.

as a Pharmacist I co`me across varied sizes bottles and containers. All this goes in the trash. You might ask at the Pharmacy near you and get more than you ever thought of. If a Chain store is unwilling ask at an independent.

All with child proof tops Gerald!  What good would that do to give the kids a puzzle with all the parts locked away from them :ROFL:
