Shooting boxes that is.  36x36 outside dimensions, gussets at the corners, Apple Red with white stencil.

2 were in sad shape, so repaired them, and built 2 more out of some scraps i had laying around.

they are set on the ground, and fixed in place with ground nails as needed (the 1/2" holes on all sides), and then the shooter has to stay inside the bounds of the box while shooting the array of targets that are visible.

used in both USPSA and Steel challenge matches.  often, in USPSA, they are used as a starting place for a stage, or as the only legal shooting positions for multiple targets (some of which might be visible from more than one box).

we also have similar fault lines, which define the boundaries of a larger shooting area.  but these boxes pretty well confine the shooter to one spot, while allowing him/her some degree of freedom in foot placement.  normally, you can step on the sides of the box, as long as your feet do not contact the ground on the outer side of the box.

that help?

It sure did, thanks.

Sure wish I had access to outdoor ranges like that nearby. Would be awesome for a relative newbie.

built it in 2015, 25x50, 12' ceiling.  heated for winter use, LED lights, lots of power outlets (quad every 4 feet), two drop down power cords.  sweet set up.

i started with a basement shop of 18x11, 7' ceiling.  we moved, and i set up my shop in the old horse barn, but it was nasty, main area was about 16x35, but it wasn't heated, had mud when it rained, and had rats.  ick.

so created this shop nearby, no mud, no rats, nicely sealed up for winter use, and i can swing an 8 foot piece of lumber and not hit the ceiling.  yay.

but it has no plumbing, so either walk up to the house (100 yards away), or pick a tree you like.  it does have two water catchment cisterns, 2500 gallons each, with submersible pumps, so i can wash cars or my hands if needed.

what you didn't see was today's "oops"

spray painted the first LASC, went to turn the assembly 90 degrees to do the next one, and managed to put my fat thumb right in the middle of the freshly wet white paint.....doh.

clean up on aisle 5!!!

cleaned things up, tried again, success.
