February 28, 20224 yr Does this seem to you to be a little over the top? I mean at $650 it is bordering on a decent used shaper.
February 28, 20224 yr Popular Post Too rich for my blood. I don't do much with a router so my old Delta works well for me. Bought it at Lowe's, it was the demo unit.
February 28, 20224 yr Popular Post The way I look at things if a person buys something for 10 dollars or for 10,000 and never use either one then that money has been wasted so in my mind both would be junk taking up space in my shop... So this question can only be answered by you for we will never see or use either of those tools. Cliff thats just being honest for I don't know what kind of shop you have and also I think age should have something to do with enlarging ones shop. I don't go by age, I go by aliments for sometimes I feel great so more work time but the writing has been on the wall for some times now and won't admit it. I will suggest that you check out ever seller of that same type of machine and compare, even different brands and make sure they have what you are wanting from a machine like that. Also how many times in a week or a month or by the year just how often will it be used. Is there a big market for what it will make and are the different cutting bits reasonalbly priced. Also I will remind you that when buying a machine like that from a wood worker you will get all the extras the guy has added over the years to go with that machine and those accessories and bits will add a big some of money or not to the final selling price and it might be helpful to know if he owns a large cabinet shop or a hobby shop so this will let you know mayby how worn out it might be. How old is it. Over the years I enjoyed bidding and buying things the schools had up for auction. Number one, most schools bought the best machines of their times and also high school kids are not interested that much in wood working to wear one out unless a pretty girl was in that same class. And the best part of going to pick up what my bids bought the schools were getting out of woodworking as a class for credits so they would always add things they thought were not putting numbers on for bids and would throw in lots of smaller items just to clear out the building. I bid one time from a school in Killeen, Tx for 7 Dewalt 788 scroll saws for 420.00 and after I loaded them up a guy ask if I was interested in the rest of those things over there in that pile of things just to get them out of here. I ended taking home 2 1 x 42" Delta belt -disk grinders, 4 random orbit Delta sanders, a few hand planes many drill bits, a Binks paint gun and about 50 different types of clamps. Wife ask my why we didn't drive down there to at least look at the scroll saws before placing a bid and I told her my bid would be around the cost of one new scroll saw and young kids might damage things by throwing things around the room but they sure would not be worn out from use...After that I started getting a few Sunday new papers for from different towns they always had the auctions listed and I made all the schools auctions in Texas from about 2000 to a few years ago...
