February 18, 20223 yr Popular Post While out and about today...decided to stop in at the local Antique Mall here in town.....not much new in the basement, nor on the ground floor....hobbled upstairs to the second floor..looked around...next thing I know, an object had attached itself to my hand...and refused to let go....back downstairs to check out... Well..Sales Tax added a $1.81 to the price....$25.00 for this plane? Millers Falls No. 8 , type 2.. That be a Patent date in the red circle... And, So..ya think I can keep it? After all, I did turn me nose up a TWO Stanley Handyman plane-wannabees
February 18, 20223 yr Popular Post Sweet score. Gotta' love those old Millers-Falls. Pretty nice looking already for a store find and price was fair too IMO. Looks to be a #3 size??? Oh, and yes you can keep it, but remember you are responsible for feeding and cleaning up after it.
February 18, 20223 yr Popular Post Nice find, Maybe keep it on a trial basis and see if it plays nice with your other toys.

February 19, 20223 yr Popular Post Gonna have to plan us a trip to Millers Falls this spring. Maybe an hour away, out on the Mohawk Trail (otherwise known as Route 2).
February 21, 20223 yr Author Popular Post Rehab time, today From this.. Patina? Spidey has left the building....sole wasn't too bad...just a bit scratched up Gave the plane a test drive first.. Start time was 1219 hrs...we'll see how this goes...Did the tear down...and the Spider eviction.. A few drops of 3in1 oil helps out. Wire wheel and a buff.... Face of the frog was laid down on a beltsander for a bit...the dang thing still had the mill marks from when it was made.. Frog parts were slowly getting cleaned up. All threaded parts had their threads cleaned up, and a drop of oil before they were reattached Bolts shined up, brass has a shine to it. Handles got a wipe down with that 3in1 oil...then wiped with a cloth.. Sole was cleaned up, seemed to be flat enough.. Sides were cleaned and shiny...the problems came with sharpening the iron..it had a bunch of small nicks in the edge...took a while to remove them..and a second test drive..to find a couple more nicks...Finally.. 3rd test drive...to get this to act like a smoother should... Next problem? It IS hard to stop doing this, and get it to turn and face the camera... The Millers Falls No. 8 is the same size as a Stanley No. 3. Quitting time? 1415 hours.....just under 2 hours total..counting stopping to take all these pictures. Not too bad for $26.81?
February 21, 20223 yr Popular Post Great rescue Bandit; turned out extremely nice.. It's where is was meant to be. Looks like you're feeding it very well.
