Quilt ruler storage

My daughter has a number of quilt rulers of various sizes and would like to have a storage area for them where they are not out in the open. Hoping I can design something. probably a draw pullout. The space she wants to store them is only about 10" wide. Wish me luck. It will be attached to a table in the room so tipping won't be an issue of concern.

Al, maybe you can build something taller with dividers similar to a sheet pan drawer.

I had to look up what quilt rulers look like.  Bob may have a good suggestion there.  If space allows (height), maybe a pair of drawers.  The top drawer could be either for the most often used rulers, or for shorter smaller rulers so they don't get lost amongst the larger taller ones.

But, since you only asked for "good luck"... Good Luck with it Al! :D

My Mom quilted but I never saw her use one of these. I thing the vertical storage idea might be a workable one, especially if she has the larger rulers I saw on Amazon.

I had to look that one up. Now I'm even MORE confused! :WonderScratch:

Yeah, Phyl has several, of different types and sizes. she keeps most of them in cubbys. Easy to find.

Finally had weather warm enough to get in the shop. This is what I came up with for my daughters quilt rule storage. I made it with no top figuring it would allow easier access.  While my daughter is happy with the storage, she asked why I didn't put a top on it. After viewing it in place, it would look better with a top. I'm planning to add a hinged top using stop hinges. It is mounted on 1" diameter swivel caster for easy removal from the storage space at the end of her computer desk.

Looks good Al. Happy to hear you got some shop time in too!

Nicely done!

Looks like she'll have plenty of room to expand her collection. Nice job Al.

Nice Al.  I'm with you, it doesn't need a top.

Al that is about as good or better than I was thinking of. My wife has those spread out in a few different rooms and it seems like the one she needs at that time is always a few rooms away.

Her problem is trying to hide those two long things she rolls the materials up on. And I'm always in the shop when she comes out there and says I need your help to roll again?

Vertical dowels make good dividers, spaced x & y as needed

I made small ones by just putting some grooves in a piece of wood.

Thanks to everyone for your comments. @kmealy I did attach a piece of 4/4 x 8" x 18" mahogany with 14 grooves for the rulers to stand in. She filled every groove. I do have enough width to add a narrow strip with more grooves. I may do that as I make the top. I thought 14 grooves would be plenty.

How many times have I done same thing. Doubled, tripled size.  Yup, filled it up within few days to weeks.:throbbinghead:

Thanks a lot, Al!  Now I have to be very careful what threads I can open when the wife person is around. If she sees this I know I'll be building one in the very near future. :D

Seriously, you did an outstanding job on this and I'm gonna keep it handy for when I inevitably have to do one. I'll have to add at least one drawer for all of the small shape templates I have cut in the past.

Quilt rulers must be like clamps.
