chess set king is missing so make one with instructions.

 

Straight from Germany?

So my dear chess players is the short piece a king or queen and same

 goes for the shorter piece, king or queen? Okay after reading the instructions I figured it out!

 

I don't think the quality of workmanship will be hard to match! 

 

Very cool. Easy for you. I am headed there in March. Want me to drop it off for you? 

I'm thinking when you're done it will be the best looking piece in the set.

Typically the shorter of the two is the queen. King is typically the tallest piece on the board.

Dan that might get the whole chess set back for an upgrade. There was nothing said about pay and I don't know an Angela especially in Germany and no I am sure I didn't leave any kin before I headed back home. So I think I will just play it cool for a while and see if anything might give me a hint.

 

Terri, a good thought but Germany is a big place. Maybe you could make a sign before you get there saying something like.... Angela, I have your chess pieces!

 

 

Chess ! I learned to play chess years ago but never developed the skills needed. I taught my son how to play and he developed a lot of interest. Studied Fisher and regularly beat members of his opposition. He taught me a bit but really shamed me with his skills. Before he passed on he had collected at least 7 chess sets. Always one set displayed and ready for play. His favorite table was a table I had made with a carved chess board at the center. Table top was a 3" thick slab cut at the fork of the tree. Approx 20" wide and 5' long. Actually, my first woodworking project.

Would you believe I know an Angela in Germany? Stayed at her house last time we were there. Where is the return address? It would really be something if we were going not far from there. We drive to Buckeburg, after flying into Hannover.

Yes I knew that...so maybe I was the one pranked here by not one but two Littlefields?? Even funnier! I really should try to get out more.

No NO No she got married many moons ago so for about 1/2 a hundred years this little lady is being guided by the creature from the black loogoon.

Thursday afternoon and I started making a king.

 

I never did see a marriage  thingy so I assumed she got married.

We were talking about my wife were we not?

Ya' got me Patch. I thought we were talking about the King & Queen of Germany.

I just now come in here to post my progress on this chess piece and realized I need to cut two slots in the top ? No I didn't even see this while it was in the lathe. Thats okay I can do more.

I didn't know that..If you make the things you are turning very smooth then only one shooting of a color is all it takes and beside

I use maple wood instead of pine of some kind?

 I didn't know why who ever made the first king sliced off each side of his crown for some reason?? so I left this one I made since there will only be one king in this chess set, no one will ever know I didn't match what was sent to me to match! And my king is 1/16" taller for I didn't take in to account for the felt I glued on the bottom .
