I couldn't think of anything to make until I saw this butterfly and since it has an unusual outline I thought it would look good with lots of wild colors wife can fab in to it.

She still has some of the top outside of the wings to build but you get the idea as what she is doing. My request was all see through glass and plenty of wild colors!1965622412_IMG_20220131_101327493largestainedglassbutterfly.jpg.3b3c984154a87c04dfffecdea6813242.jpg

I will use 2 pieces of 1/4" BB with the insides cut out to glue over the edges and hope it goes with her doings!!?

And I told her , hey this butterfly maybe had a run in with some high winds or things that wanted to eat it so if you make any bo-bo's just leave them in as to show this project is made by humans and none of the cnc interventions, no offence there????

Tell Mrs. Patch her butterfly is more than a sun catcher...it's an eye catcher...eye candy!!

That's a great butterfly! :Praise:

I'm not sure what you are planning to do with the bb ply Jess, but I am sure it will compliment it :D

Cal I been putting small BB frames around the butterflys enclosing the glass on both sides, like this.

Both sides were 3/8" and this time I will try to cover this new one with 1/8"  or 1/4"on each side with more wood in the middle as wide as the glass and solder measures. I've not seen any thing like this looking through stained glass books for I figure they are not wood workers as well as glass workers also.

Just something different to piddle with..

She has all the glass soldered together now its my turn to try and make a frame around the glass.

This is much harder to do than it looks...I used 3 pieces of Baltic Birch plywood . Two pieces are 1/4" and one piece is 1/8". All three pieces I traced around the outside of the butterfly then extended that line almost 1/2" all the way around then nailed all three together and scroll sawed them out.

since the glass is all 1/8" thick I intended to use the 1/8" piece of plywood but maw and the solder made the glass and solder closer to 1/4" thick so smart thinking I used the 1/4" thick in the middle and the 1/8" for the back side. So now the middle piece of wood has to be cut so the glass will lay in and hold the glass so it will not slide around and for sure not drop out of the frame. The 1/8" piece will hold the pieces from the rear and the front piece of the frame being 1/4" thick will hold every thing secure. Tomorrow I will color and finish the frame which will become the rest of the butterfly's wings.

People send in their pictures to Delphi stain glass to show what their imaginations can come up with and I don't think I have ever seen a small frame around the glass like this so maybe they will scratch their heads for a while trying to do the same.

It looks very difficult to me. You do amazing work.

Without a doubt, you compliment each other in multiple ways Patch. Going to be another spectacular piece.

That is super Jess!  Be sure to post up some follow up for us... pics when the project is complete and pics & comments from Delphi when it gets posted up there :)

It seemed like the butterfly needed some color so I added some.190078933_IMG_20220207_192209197addedcolortothisdullbutterfly.jpg.1ddc8cdb711cdd7482e21819320a451e.jpg472858907_IMG_20220207_192214798beacksideneededcoloralso.jpg.ed88a6182ff085aba5e2a82362df6efe.jpg

IDK Patch, what's the missus think?

Just my take Patch. Beautifully done frame and glass work.  I think the added color draws the eye away from the beautiful glass work. Not criticizing by any means.

That’s what I want to know. I would listen to her.

The understatement of the year!  Great project; you're probably a surgeon by day!

You guy are seeing right, but when the glass is hanging in the window you hardly see the frame on the two we already have hanging in the frames!!! The brightness of out side kinda turns off the frame and turns on the glass, so to speak. So what I am doing is make this butterfly stays turned on both day and night.

As long as Mrs. Patch is fine with it, then I'm onboard.
