Does glitter cheapen?

I recently finished this ornament. I found some gold glitter that is slightly bigger than I am used to & though I’d give it a try. I like it. My wife don’t. She said it cheapens it

 

what do you think?

Because of the granular size, I think it would have looked a little better if you had turned a recess and filled it with the glitter- giving it a cleaner line at the transition from wood to glitter.

Yep needs a defined edge , in other words a straight line. Even just a burn line may help.

I think the glitter would be ok if it were more subtle. With the color of the wood and the nice shape the glitter detracts I think.

This is a small item so reduce you glitter to a powdered glitter. But like you I started out bigger is better and all those bottles of the large size just sit there and remind me smaller is better in this situation...

Oh, and when I add glitter, I build up the lacquer coats so you can not feel the edges of the glitter. This makes the other half of this house hold mor happy.

Put it in a coffee grinder and powder it.   Don't ask how I know this works.  Also, don't use the wife's coffee grinder, get a cheap one of your own.  Also don't ask how I know.

Ron I agree with the suggestions given by the experts. In this case, the beauty of the contrasting woods you chose is much overrun by the glitter. The ornament alone is spectacular. The glitter distracts rather than enhances. JMO. Thanks for your willingness by putting it out for critique.

Thanks for the input.  I kinda knew it was a bit too much. The glue I used should not be too hard to remove and should not harm the finish. I did not apply any finish over the glitter to make it easier to remove. Sometimes you gotta ask, what I thought was nice.........WASN'T

I think someone telling their true thoughts on all the things we make and show here Is the best way to go.  And offer remedies. Just offering, JUST SUCKS should be left out but hey everyone has an opinion.

Cheapen is such a harsh word.  I am a peasant, not worldly, high class, or any of that high faluting ilk, but I know what I like. I like the ornament glitter free. There are many acceptable uses for glitter, and maybe on an ornament that needs to be dressed up, but your ornaments need no dressing up.
