Fine Woodworking Breadboard Table Ends

Featured Replies

Would hydrogen be a good cleaner for these boards and then reapply a good coat of mineral oil?  Especially if you process any animals or anilmal products on the board. Give it a good coat of hydrogen and wait until all the bubbles go away, wipe it down with soapy water and apply the peroxide a second time to kill any residue. Or will peroxide break down or damage the glue?

Peroxide would be a good cleaner (a guess on my part, it is a great disinfectant). But it will damage boards very much the same way as water, so no soaking.

That'll work! Had one prominently displayed in my classroom and used it often.

Aahh, the "good 'ole days."  Still was better in the classroom than when you got home. VOE:rolleyes:

Unlike cutting boards, serving board finishes could be of the water resistant type. I.E. Poly, Lacquer, etc. Just don't allow anyone to confuse a bread board with a cutting board. As Paul intimated, a dishwasher safe cutting board, OTOH, being generally white in color, should aid in the selection process. :D

The subject of wooden and plastic cutting boards comes up regularly. Fact is wood is safer than plastic.

Here are a couple articles. I am at work and could not find the article I usually post on the subject:

The only one I ever did was for a toy box. I made each board into tongue and groove including the ends. That was 8 years ago and the 2 girls climb on that lid and jump. Wood is poplar
