October 30, 20214 yr Popular Post I spent a little time turning this monkeypod bowl. Rough turned due to high moisture content. Meter showing 30-35%. Packed in shavings to dry for now. It's supposed to be a Christmas present and I'm hoping it will dry out enough to finish by then. This piece of wood turned really well. Has kind of a spicy smell, but not overpowering or bad. Dense tight grain with large pores. Seeing minor end grain tear out and some fuzzies. Shear scraping took care of that easily. .40 Edited October 30, 20214 yr by forty_caliber

One Way's bowl steady. Used in the front for interior hollowing, can be flipped 180 for working on the exterior. Heavily made, almost eliminates vibration and chattering. .40

Drill holes and mount wheels. The square tubing makes for easy wheel mounting and still holds nice in the round hole. I also found a set of scooter wheels that work nicely too. They have appx. 4.25 dia. I like them when doing spindles the smaller diameters fit deeper onto the wheels so this two wheel set up works well. Easier to set up than my three wheel steady.
October 30, 20214 yr Popular Post Looks good . I do not think it will dry in time to finish. If you have another blank try turning to finish I thing you will be surprised at the result. Not a perfect round, but none are really anyway. Just try it on some extra wood of any species I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

December 12, 20214 yr Author Popular Post A couple of weeks ago, I took the MP bowl out of the shavings bag and carried it inside. Moisture meter was reading at that time was about 25% down about 10% from when it was roughed out. I put the blank on a shelf above the hot water heater. Checked on it today, and found that it was running about 10% moisture. Will have to remember this trick when I want to hurry one along. Drying done and done. Finished turned this morning. .40

More tear out type issues dry. Sheer scraping and delicate light passes with a negative rake scraper took care of the problem pretty easily. Sanding was very easy and quick. .40

Looks like you got the laser dialed in, too.
December 13, 20214 yr Excellent job for "monkeying" around. Love the final look and finish. Customer should be ecstatic.
