Recent Paint Purchase

Featured Replies

My wife went to the local retail Sherwin-Williams paint store to purchase wall paint.  $70.00/per gal which included 4% Supply Chain surcharge, effective through 12/31/2021.  We have been a SW customer for many years (preferred customer) and they did not have the decency to inform her of the surcharge before the purchase.  She had to read it on the receipt.   Danl

What the heck is a Supply Chain surcharge???? (rhetorical question)

Not only do we have to wait for a product, now we're being charged for the wait?

Next thing you know, bacon will be $20 a pound.   Oh, wait.

Maybe, I'll just wait until after Christmas to buy anything else.  Oh, wait, Christmas is coming.  Foiled again.

I've been satisfied with the performance of Behr paints from home depot for both interior uses and exterior uses, coverage and durability. A year ago I invested in some Petit marine deck nonskid paint for my front deck. It survived only one winter. About quadruple the cost of behr paint. Yes I did take time to properly prep the deck surface.

Like you, Al, I have used Behr paints for about 30 years.  It is costly now.  A gallon of semigloss exterior paint is about $32 per gallon.  Last year when I purchased it to paint this house, it was all of $27 per gallon.  I have tried Sears Weather beater which I will warn to run the other way.  I have tried some of the cheaper paints and they just don't hold up in our subtropical weather more than a year.  I have tried Valspar and it works pretty well, but it takes multiple coats.  My only objection to Home Depot is that they do not have cashiers here.  So, when I purchased all my paint last year, a lady guided me to one of those self check out.  I told her if they want to sell 7 gallons of paint, a cashier will be provided.  She pointed to another check out desk and said I can help you over here.  I guess you have to advocate for yourself.

BTW, all you veterans, if you have a veteran ID card, at both Lowe's and Home Depot, you can get the 10% deduction on most purchases.  It has saved me many bucks.

But that's still less than half the $70 for Sherwin Williams paint. Cashiers are available locally. If you walk up to a self serve there is usually a cashier ready to help if you want.
