A little disappointed but opportunity presented. My first time to turn hickory. Outside turned perfect. Hollowing was going good til I put the teardrop scraper on to smooth sides. Hit the bottom once and got a catch which bent the tooth holder. Got the second hit on bottom and it just opened up. Tried gluing it back together but left cracks so now for some inventive repairs after it dries. 

Ouch!

Redesign time.  Hate when that happens.

 

I am thinking maybe laces. But today successfully turned the other half log. There was a demo at SWAT by Dennis Belcher on this very possibility.

Glad you aren't hurt.  Flying wood like that can seriously injure you.  I hope you can recover it in a way that makes you happy.  So sorry that this looks very sad.
