A Young Recruit in the Works

Well we are on our way, took my boy down to the Army Recruiters today and started the process. It'll be a year before he ships out, but they way they do things these days it's a good idea to get started, and even perhaps a delayed entry. He's been chomping at the bit to get to the Recruiters and start his fact finding mission regarding jobs, and all that goes into the decision making process.

Our son is thinking on Military Police, he wants to serve out his time in the Army in law enforcement and then come out to the civilian world and get into Border Patrol or another specialized type of law enforcement.

Anyway, we are on our way!

We currently have a daughter finishing up her school in the Army before she heads off to her permanent duty station, and right behind her will be her brother, hey they may bump into each other around the world! :) Thanks for sharing in my pride!

Way to go! You've gotta be one proud poppa. Hope he is successful in getting his choice of training.

Some of our proudest moments were when we attended each of our sons' graduation ceremonies from basic.

Good that he wants to do this.  I well remember the dear old draft and served because of it.  I think every young man should serve.  Much to learn and time to grow up.  Never mind the weight, they will teach him things that will bring down the big boys.  Congratulations on your children wanting to serve our country in ways that are completely necessary.

Every young man AND young woman. I don't think 2 years of compulsory service to your country is too much of a burden.

Well, Gene, my buddy, I love you but going to have to disagree a bit.  I have 3 grand daughters and I don't want any of them forced to serve.  I agree that it would do them good, but maybe something besides military, like giving service in a national park.  However, I do agree that if a woman wishes to serve in the military, she should be allowed to serve in the capacity that she desires.  If she wishes to serve in the front lines of war, let her.  Some of them can be rather aggressive and will kick your butt before you can blink an eye.  I worked with a former Marine for a few years.  He didn't want any women to serve in the military.  AT the time, they were building some new buildings for reworking Navy/Marine aircraft.  Women were operating dump trucks and yellow gear to put the dirt in place.  Also, women were erecting or assisting erection of the new buildings and tougher than some of the men on site.  The former Marine could not stand it and complained everyday until months are the projects were completed.:D

Somehow, I just can't see the National park service instilling the self discipline in their people that service in the military provides.
