I have saturated it with Carter’s Timber Oil which is basically linseed oil with a few other preservatives added. We use on teak deck furniture etc and it works well.

Funny you said that. My MIL finished oak bench slats with BLO and it did not last long at all. Thinking back was probably red oak. Now you can use Thompson's water seal or brand of your choice might be better.

Paul, Sikkens would be a much better choice, IMO.

On the water we get a few months out of a coat. Carter’s has a UV protectant in it supposedly. It works real well on mahogany and teak. Yes We generally wipe everything down with a light coat about every 3-4 months. The problem with the poplar is that it’s too soft a wood for this item. It’s going to get dinged up real quick. But hey, she’s happy so that’s what matters. I am satisfied how it came out appearance wise but I suspect I will be building another one within a year or two.

The idea for us is to use an easily reapplied finish on deck furniture etc. We have tried a number of finishes on the furniture and this one seems to be the best for us. As far as the exterior teak on the boat itself we use clear Cetol which we really like.

We used Sikkens Cetol SRD Transparent on our redwood deck, up in the mountains. It held up for five years. The UV was actually harder on it than the snow and rain.

I have all the exterior teak on the boat done in their clear gloss. We have been using it for about 15 years with great results. It holds up about 2-3 years which means by the time I get completely around the boat it’s time to go around again. It’s a never ending process on 10 FORWARD.

Get some of that sandpaper sticky back for the treads and the platform surface. Otherwise it'll be slicker than snot after a rain or fog or mist making it wet. Basically turning it into a giant block of ice.

I believe it's called tread tape.

Dragon 1, you and Gunny take all the fun out of life. My plan was to use silicon spray. That way they won’t mess up the treads as much 😎

Delivered and installed. It has a couple minor design flaws to correct but overall it works well.

The stairs are almost as beautiful as the boat.

Paul, that looks excellent.  Great job.

Thanks for the comments 😃 We are just finishing up our second restoration of 10 Forward. When we bought her in 2006 she was pretty much a disaster and it was a major job. This time around it’s been mostly cosmetic. The big item left now are the decks. We are going to try and restore them again but I suspect it’s going to be time to lay a new deck. I’m not looking forward to that one. It will be a month of working on hands and knees.
