Shaker Style Cupboard Using Only Hand Tools (Video)

Sometimes instructional videos can get long, and that is fine if you are mainly unfamiliar with every step of the process to make your project.

This video however, was just right, assuming you already have a grasp on layout and design and tools usage, this young man goes through the basic steps on making a very nice shaker cupboard. I am in the process of making rail and stile and raised panel doors for mama's cabinet, using hand tools, and I wanted to get some tips on the process and order of steps, I found this relatively short video that included what I needed to see.

Actually this video has inspired me to make a cupboard just like he is making, it looks like a wonderfully fun project!

One of the best tips I picked up from this video is how to create sliding dovetails, check it out, it's really slick!

Enjoy! :)

No way I could get the mortice angles, for the sliding dovetails, correct with a hand saw!

I was under the impression that when the Shakers made raised panels, the front was flat and the raised part went inside.

Well, it is Shaker "Style". So the builder has his own interpretation? Not Shaker reproduction. :)

Yeah, I should have said that.   It was impressive work.

Thank you, John.  The video reminded me of Steve Neuman working on one of his projects.  LOL

That was so genius wasn't it Lew?

Angles for the sliding dovetails, I wonder if you could use the device that provides the angles for dovetail making.  You could place that in the place you wish and put the saw along side to keep the correct angle.  Need to go try that.

The sky is the limit Steve! Go do it, and let us know how it worked out!
