Popular Post AndrewB Posted January 27, 2021 Popular Post Report Posted January 27, 2021 First resin cast went smoothly not a huge heap of bubbles in this one at least. I'm thinking I may turn this one into an egg once I get my gallon kit of resin maybe turn it into and egg inside of an egg or something. We shall see. How ever the casting has been de molded just used one of the mixing cups as the mold. Its solid but I'm assuming its still curing 24 hours yea right. Not for a deeper poor. Either way I like the color of it. I did a red casting this morning with the last little bit of resin left that I had. Gerald, FlGatorwood, HandyDan and 4 others 7 Quote

RustyFN Posted January 27, 2021 Report Posted January 27, 2021 I am no expert but I leave mine in for 24 hours and they come out clear and bubble free. Cal, DuckSoup, FlGatorwood and 1 other 4 Quote
Gerald Posted January 28, 2021 Report Posted January 28, 2021 Gonna have to try with color swirls or glitter DuckSoup, Cal and FlGatorwood 3 Quote
AndrewB Posted January 28, 2021 Author Report Posted January 28, 2021 I was trying for swirls but I don't know if I got any luck with that I'll know once I can finally turn it. FlGatorwood and Cal 2 Quote

What brand resin are you using? I tried a bar top kind and it worked very well but after winter it would dry cloudy and wasn’t clear any more. Another brand I tried never hardened hard enough. AndrewB Posted January 28, 2021 Author Report Posted January 28, 2021 I added some green to the mix as well. Wish I had more resin LOL but I'll probably order some on Monday. FlGatorwood, p_toad and Cal 3 Quote
lew Posted January 28, 2021 Report Posted January 28, 2021 Is that after you used the pressure pot? Cal and FlGatorwood 2 Quote
AndrewB Posted January 29, 2021 Author Report Posted January 29, 2021 (edited) yes that is after I used the pot. But that portion will probably wind up getting turned down either way. Edited January 29, 2021 by AndrewB FlGatorwood, p_toad and Cal 3 Quote
Cal Posted January 29, 2021 Report Posted January 29, 2021 Is this a chemical reaction going on that causes all the bubbles? FlGatorwood and DuckSoup 2 Quote
HandyDan Posted January 29, 2021 Report Posted January 29, 2021 Resin is a thick ligiud with a hardener added into it so a lot of the bubbles are from the mixing and stirring. FlGatorwood and Cal 1 1 Quote

The pressure pot will get rid of them all. A vacuum pot will also work but a pressure pot seems easier and less messy. p_toad, FlGatorwood and Cal 3 Quote
lew Posted January 29, 2021 Report Posted January 29, 2021 (edited) That seems to be way too many bubbles A couple of things that might have happened. Was the mold completely dry when you poured the resin in it? Warming the resins, before/after mixing can help. Cold resin can cause slow bubble movement. Was the pigment specifically designed for the brand of resin you are using? Finally, how old was the resin? Edited January 29, 2021 by lew Cal 1 Quote
AndrewB Posted January 29, 2021 Author Report Posted January 29, 2021 I'm not entirely sure but either way it was only a first casting. The blue came out okay which is was I was banking on. I just added some extra stuff to get a better surface area. Had to cut the stuff out of a cup so some of the resin got cut up no worries the blue is still intact which is what I was really aiming for. This has set for a good few days now and should be ready to turn just gotta figure out what to mount it on. I'm still planning on turning it into an egg. Cal, lew and p_toad 3 Quote
