I wanted to make some different ornaments and my wife wanted me to use Purple Hart.

1.The one on the left is Purple Hart and Yellow Hart with some embellishment.

2.The one in the Center is all Purple Hart, however I used friction burning to get different shades.

you have to look closely, the picture doesn't show it very well

3. This was an experiment with coarse grained White Oak. I used Red latex paint, wipe off after a few minutes and sand. Repeat............I like it.

The picture as shown here is an extreme close up and you see many things that no one normally sees. Until I saw it, couldn't believe how close it came out.

Nicely done Ron, very interesting effects.

Very nice Ron. I like the one with the red paint too. I am always a sucker for Purple Heart. It is one of my favorite woods.

Think the one on the left gets the prize. Like what you did with the oak. Wonder what that would look like on a bowl.

Ron, you have the most creative ideas.  I always love your experiments and displays.  Keep them coming.

I think it would look good on a bowl. Pick a color that would compliment the the grain.  I thinned the paint. applied heavily and allowed to completely dry before I sanded. I'd try it on a small piece first, woods behave so differently when they absorb liquid.

Those are really great Ron.  Like Lew, I am very intrigued by that oak one.  Now, what are you referring to with how close it came out?

When I take pictures for posting, usually iphone, I don't get up real close to my subject. When the picture post appears, it is like a close up picture 2 times the magnification of the original.
