December 30, 20205 yr Author I knew Chris (and Steve and Jim) during those early days of PWW. Their office was in a basement of an art-deco Coca-Cola building near Xavier U. And I remember seeing that "door workbench" in their shop there. I like his discussion about SYP -- I have used it for quite a number of shop (and other) projects in the last few years. Menards carries #1 but HD and Lowe's only #2.

December 30, 20205 yr I went ahead and installed SYP and Southern Yellow Pine in our link data base, so now it auto links in the future, thanks Keith.
December 30, 20205 yr Author Popular Post Somewhere along the line, maybe even from a conversation with Chris, I started using SYP meant for floor joists. It appears that it is more knot-free than say 2x4 or 2x6. (Besides, Menards does not carry 2x4 or 2x6 SYP) I rip it down to the widths I need. I've used it for my own workbench as well as several for the furniture bank and theater shops.
