I will tell you up front. I stole this idea. I belong to a turning group on mewe and one of the turners there posted pictures of some birdhouse ornaments. They were stunning with a really different roof and a superb glossy finish. Anyway, I knew I had to try and figure out the look. It took me a couple attempts before I realized, the roof is nothing more than a very small natural edge bowl, almost. This is my first successful attempt, rough, with no finish but it's definitely a look I'll explore further, probably next Christmas season, good Lord willing. The body is from a small sycamore limb and the roof is the same of mulberry. Both are essentially still green so it will be interesting to see how it warps or destroys itself!

That's why we share but stealing from each other just makes it feel more mischievous.

I'll have to check my MeWe account. Been having trouble with the woodturners group seeing the chat function. It's only on that forum the rest work OK.

The big draw to mewe is, there are no advertisers and so far as I can tell no politics though I stay in the turning area. It is supported entirely by users. It's completely functional free of charge but a person can donate or upgrade to a premium membership for a small monthly membership fee.

I understand that sentiment and a person has to be comfortable with their decisions. I can only speak from my experience and don't mean this to be a recommendation. I joined MeWe in Dec. 2018. So far, I have no issues or indications of anything amiss. It's not nearly so large as FB and seems much friendlier. There is a popup every few log ins asking members to upgrade and help support the platform. No big deal, close it and it goes away for a few days and everything continues to work as normal.
