So in cutting my last bowl blank my bandsaw motor finally decided to crap out and go.  It wont even cut the big three inch blanks anymore.  Which is a minor incontinence.   I did really like the ryobi bandsaw.  I got a good run out of it for what I paid for at least.  Did everything I needed it to do to get me started.  I can't afford to spend on an expensive bandsaw sadly how ever I found one that I think I can manage and for the price.    Either way I'm considerieng getting this one.  The smaller saws work better for me in the long run of things.  I am looking at the wen 9 inch bandsaw this go around.  Since I've already picked up my pressure pot the bandsaw now needs a replacement and I think this one may do the trick to get me by.

After reading the Amazon reviews, I’d pass. Also, the max thickness of the cut is 3.5”. That severely limits the depth of any bowl you may want to get out of logs. 

You may want to consider the Rikon 10-3061.  It is more expensive, bur more saw.   Danl

I have the 10-305.  Couple models earlier.  Nice saw.  Get rid of factory blade.  Haven't done any ripping on it. I have big JET for that work.  But this unit does all the other work you can throw at it.  Never had any trouble. 

my lathe is only a a 12 inch by 33 inch so I'm quite limited already....

With the the Wen bandsaw, your "log" bowls will look something like this-

 

The diameter can be up to about 11.75" but the depth will be a maximum of about 3.25" if you use a tenon to mount to your chuck

I'm perfectly okay with that shape of bowl I rather like it.  That is currently some what of the shape of my bowls now with a bit of variance.  Unfortunately being on a fixed income sort of limits me on what kind of tools and how much I can spend on them limits things.  Especially to have funds left over for food money and what not.  Either way I'm perfectly okay with that.  Its also a rather unique and basic shape that I like and fits well almost anywhere.

Assuming you donated to the Xmas family cause you should wait. You just might win the bandsaw !

Yes donation was able to be made before I made the purchase but if I donate I don't donate to win an item that's not the idea of donating to me I have different morals for things like that.  How ever yes I did get my band saw and I'm perfectly okay with it.  But I did see the prizes.

Andrew, if you are mechanical, you might unplug your old bandsaw and see if there is anyone local who can look at the motor.  Just remove it and see if they have a suitable replacement or have it rebuilt.  It would be much cheaper.  And, you could keep the same capacity of cutting.  They may not do that anymore.  I took a starter off a lawn mower last year, took it to a shop where they repaired starters, alternators, generators and the like.  Since my broken starter was made in China, they would not attempt working on it.  The supervisor called it junk.  It cost me $140 for a new one.  That's the first thing that I would try.  Good luck.  

I know its not that it was going bad for over a month now and smelled like it was burning out so I had no choice.

So it is SATURDAY at last of course Amazon delivers at the end of the danged day on this particular route... How ever I just recieved my new band saw I got it all set up good to go.  The darn thing even came with a pretty nice rip fence so I like that.  Easy on easy off on the saw table.  I'm pleasanty pleased with this in expensive saw and some of the features of it.  Either way now i can get back to bowls and turning.

But it's ok if you win! We all donate to the cause for the humanitarian motive, but hey, if I won a new band saw or turning tools in the process, I'd have no problem doing the happy dance!

I wouldn't be complaining either LOL but at least it looks like I'll be able to get a new lathe soon as well LOL.
