Basement opens into a decent garage which I have commandeered completely. My Drill presses and vertical knee mill and metal lathes and grinder are in the basement. My woodworking machines and RL160 DC are in the garage. However My Tilting head shaper is in the Basement. Yes I have a 2 HP variable speed tilting head shaper Or rather I do when I put a torsion box table on my miller and put a shaper arbor in the miller head. I ran out of room and wanted a shaper so the miller will just have to step up and fill the gap. Now if I can just figure out how to get an Agnier shaper fence upside down on that torsion box. I know I'll force the milling machine to make one. It's just sitting there doing nothing.
December 12, 20205 yr Why did you take so much off that side? I would have thought you could use the extra width? Or is that to match other pieces you've already cut?

This is not going to be a slab table that's just how the wood comes from my harvester. the table will be more traditional missing only the skirt that one associates with a .750" thick construction. It'll be 2" thick giving me plenty of timber with which to attach the legs with no skirt Edited December 12, 20205 yr by Cliff

Not intended as a criticism, I just like to understand the thinking of other craftspeople so that I too can learn and improve.

I will be making the short ones into 2" x 2" by 4' long pieces. The table will be 8' total without with a removable inset piece for expansion. The table will be in two halves joined by steel underneath, the expansion piece about 28" wide on the short side.

December 16, 20205 yr Author Popular Post the wood. I needed to go get more Yah it is more than 2" I should have no trouble finishing it to 2" Safely indoors. I've decided to make the cut pieces much bigger ( wider) than originally planned mayber I'll take advantage of the flame in these boards. https://the-axlotal-tank.smugmug.com/Walnut-table/i-6vWRptC/A
December 17, 20205 yr I really want to see the progress on this one. What is it going to be 8 or 9 foot?
