A few more ornaments.

Thought I was done making ornaments for the year but I had some special requests for a few more. So, 16 in total this batch. Had never put a hat on a birdhouse ornament before but I kind of like the look of them.

 Hi Larry

I have Nova Supernova II for my 4 jaw chucks. They are a decent chuck but if I were a first time buyer now I would definitely go with a Vicmarc or Oneway chuck. They are 1a and 1b IMO with the supernova chucks a distant third. On these ornaments I also used a collet chuck as I'm often working close to the chuck and a collet chuck is much friendlier to errant fingers. My collet chuck is a Beall.

Steve are those hollowed out inside or is there just a hole drilled in them. Very impressive. We need the start calling you the ornament king.

The hat does look nice.  I like it!

Rusty

The globes are hollowed, usually to about an eighth of an inch give or take. The birdhouse ornaments are drilled out with a 3/4" core box router bit. Depending on the shape they may or may not have any hollowing done on them.

:( I blew it, guy had a Nova G3 with a few different jaw sets, and the dual thread (RH/LH) 1" x 8TPI on C-List for $60.00 :BangingHead:

:ChinScratch: I've got a collet chuck, but I'll bet it's nothing like yours.

Wow! I'd jump on that deal in a heartbeat, the chuck by itself 150-160 I'd guess, extra jaws add up quickly too. One really nice thing about the Nova chucks is the jaws fit across their line. So, if you ever pick up a supernova2 you'll already have different jaws for it as well. Good deal! My problem is I have three supernovas and several sets of jaws to go with them. I don't want to start over and invest in a complete new setup.

I will for sure. The way the guy had it listed I wasn't exactly sure what it was.

Just listed as "Lathe Chuck", and in the description "Nova G3 ITNS $60.00"

OH, I misunderstood, thought you'd gotten it. That is a bummer.

I have a Nova G3 with a few sets of jaws.  It is a nice little chuck.  I use it on the Shopsmith.  I do mostly spindle turning.  But, the Nova chuck is excellent for turning pins and those little bird houses.  For the money, it is a great asset to have in your arsenal.
