November 11, 20205 yr This would probably be a good fit for the wood turners section how ever it falls under tools and research. I've been going back and forth from out right spending the 900 some odd dollars on a Jet wood lathe. Been watching all sorts of youtube videos and reviews on it. How ever I did happen to come across just while price hunting for wood lathes. I am a fan of Wen products I've never relaly had too many huge issues with them at all. How ever I happen to come across this in my research. Its a wen 6 AMP 14 inch by 20 inch variable speed benchtop wood lathe anywhere from 250 to 3550 RPM listed at 679 dollars USD... now comparing that to the Jet... Seems that the price seems to beat that by far. I'm definately contemplating on this one. Yes I do like the big lathe how ever its a bit of a drag seeing that it can only do certain speeds so it is some what of a downer but I still use it and its been getting its moneys worth. But the thing is just too danged heavy for me to move around safely by myself. but when I saw this I was stoked. Its a 1 inch to 8 inch spindle thread so I'm happy with that I wont have to buy new stuff just use what I currently have so not much money would be wasted there. I think it might be a win.... Especially being the fact that I would be able to do bigger bowls than the small ones I've been doing. Here is the link any thoughts on this I'm all ears..... https://www.homedepot.com/p/WEN-6-Amp-14-in-x-20-in-Variable-Speed-Benchtop-Wood-Lathe-34034/306031795 Edited November 11, 20205 yr by AndrewB
November 11, 20205 yr Popular Post Lowes has the similar Delta 46-460 for $664, free ship to store. Plus you'd get your everyday 10% military discount. IMO, ship to store is the way to go in case of damage. Early last spring, they had it for about $100 less and I bought one. I'm ashamed to say I haven't even used it yet...other projects always seemed to get in the way.
November 11, 20205 yr I have had the Delta 46-460 lathe for about 6 years and love it. The motor is 1HP and runs smooth and quiet as can be.
November 12, 20205 yr Popular Post And, you can also show your VA ID card at either Lowe's or Home Depot and they can add into their system that you are a veteran. Then they will ask for your phone number and you receive the 10% discount everyday.

Also, the 10% vet discount is the maximum. If HD will give a 10% discount, that puts the WEN at about the same cost as the Delta. Then it's just your preference.
November 12, 20205 yr Popular Post Yes they do. At least in my local HD store, the system excludes some items from the discount. I've noticed it with lumber for example. Haven't noticed that with Lowes military discount. Having said all that, I really don't have any preference among the two giants.
November 12, 20205 yr I have an older Jet mini and like it alot. It has a variable speed control and a 3 speed pulley system. However changing belt pulleys is not my favorite thing and the speed control don't go low enough to apply liquid finishes without flinging the liquids. If the newer speed control goes down to much lower RPMs, I'd like it much better.
November 12, 20205 yr Author @Ron Altier Yes I don't necessarily like that. The main reason for looking at a new benchtop lathe is simply put I am in NO position to move around the big HF lathe by myself. Being a 100 Percent Disabled Vet and Disabled by Social Security Administration.... I don't think it would be very wise of me medically or saftey wise trying to re arrange and or move that thing around on my own. Even with help its a bit rough. Although on my other Wen lathe when it was working belt changing was simplistic but easier. Another reason I'm looking at this one.... I'm more familiar with them. The one in the primary post is also a reverse drive.
November 12, 20205 yr Popular Post I must also consider ease of use when I select tools. My hands are not fully flexible and can get me in trouble in tight places. Then there is the brain that also gets me in trouble. Sometimes I don't think things out and try to blame my wife. On top of all that is my mental storage unit. It don't function like it should and I................forgot where I was going with this.
November 15, 20205 yr I have the Rikon 70-220. It will turn 12” by 21”. You can buy it in the $600 range. I have had it a couple of years and no complaints.
