My college slide rule is safely stored in a tube that contains the picture from my basic training flight.  Two memorable eras in my life.

6' foot blackboard slide ruler [...]  top of a dumpster

Gotta wonder how it was that no one in engineering at that school wanted to hang that up in their home study. I'd a snatched that up straight off.

Not everyone (including me) would have a good spot to hang it.  Takes a lot of space.

I'd find it or make space.  Even the ceiling  would work.

I used a slide rule adapted for artillery fire calculations in Viet Nam. A few years ago I talked to a modern artillery soldier. He said they still must learn to use those old slide rules as a backup to the modern electronic devices.

Good to know at least they do have a backup system. We used to have backup manual typewriter for Pharmacy label and now have none.

It seems that the back ups to our electronic gadgets are all manual.

Back ups for electronic devices are more electronic devices. All can be hacked, codes broken and everything copied or destroyed in milliseconds.
