September 12, 20205 yr Popular Post Still working on the rocking horse. Should be able to get it assembled and finished sanded. Not sure if it will be left natural wood color or stained- still waiting on that decision. Then Mimi will add the finishing details- tail and mane.
September 12, 20205 yr Popular Post Staring the winter prep in the yard, moving some plants....getting part of the garden worked under, doing somme outside jobs that have been put off too long.

September 12, 20205 yr I should have to add something to my last statement also have to beat the wild fire smoke since we are just choked here in the state with smoke. Either way this is what I'm also dealing with so I can only spend so much time outside at a time to work on projects. That's not clouds its wildfire smoke in the photos.

September 13, 20205 yr Popular Post Steve, I love the way you restore those beautiful old tools. Now, you are going to get build a new cabinet for the additions. Andrew, I hope you have some sort of mask to breathe while outside. That looks dangerous to your system. Starting work on this old pine chair. Will try to disassemble the back and arms to get those spindles on the SS tables to bore out the old dowels. Will start with smaller drill bits and may use a brace to get started. Will post as progress goes forward.
September 13, 20205 yr Over the past week I got 7 of 8 doors painted - and the lawn mowed a couple of times. Holding off on the last door as it may need trimmed after the flooring is put down. I have the MBR all prepped for laminate flooring, may get a few courses done today...
September 13, 20205 yr Popular Post Every tool I own and, all the lumber is in storage. Most of our household goods are boxed and ready for the movers. We're just rattling around in a mostly empty house. We still have some essentials like computers, TVs and the coffee pot. Trying to clean out the fridge and freezers has us eating some weird combos. Last nite we had bacon wrapped Scallops, cheesy lasagna noodles and peas. Can't wait till we get to the cereal and pork steaks.

September 13, 20205 yr Popular Post Thursday we cut up two walnut trees and that set up my weekend for : go go go. Friday notice a pain in my neck so ok pulled something on that saw job. Friday had to test setup for turning club demo next Saturday. And picked up my Mosin Nagant. Saturday the wife decides we need anew mattress. So we went shopping. Then spent two hours getting cosmoline off the rifle. So this weekend is named pooped.
September 14, 20205 yr Cal, your story reminded me of a challenge I had about 20 years ago. When the previous owners added to this house, they used hollow core doors in the addition. They of course didn't match the rest of the doors in the house. About 20 years ago, a couple purchased a really neat Greek designed house. They found it too damaged with termites so they were going to tear it down. I grabbed my measuring tape and verified that the new doors were what I thought they were. So, I went to the house where they planned to remove. I found the 2 doors that I wanted, but one door was a bit tall. It was still a panel door like the rest of our house. Got one hung and did some sanding to make it fit better. Easy, peasy. The second door was 2 inches too tall. Got it cut down to fit and it still didn't fit. Pulled the door closed and checked the hinge side first. Not bad, not perfect but passable. The latch side was crazy. At the top and bottom of the door, 32 " but the door opening had an angle toward the latch that finally that was 31" in the middle. I didn't want to mess with the facing, as it looked straight but obviously not. So, used the router to follow the line of the facing on the door. Fits like a glove and no one ever sees the flaw.
September 14, 20205 yr Popular Post yesterday was lending a hand to my neighbors - one working on his JLG lift and the other working on his Case backhoe... lots of nice clean fun. today my backhoe neighbor called and asked me if i had a spare sump pump - happened to have one brand new in the box i bought at our local Restore... spent the next couple of hours playing in his septic (well, he did - i supervised ).

JLG started their business about 20 miles west of here. The founder was the co-founder of Grove Cranes.
